Valentines Day always brings thoughts of love and friendship. One of my favorite memories of this holiday is the simple exchange of notes and cards. I poured through my Valentines box as a child, reading my notes over and over.

We all look forward to extra chocolate as well as those silly conversation hearts. Being such a hopeless romantic, I probably read more into the messages than I should have. But my friendships meant so much to me, and still do.

Friendship can be anything from simple to complex, or from easy to hard to maintain. Sometimes I think guys have the advantage on this subject... taking a low-key attitude, knowing everything will eventually work itself out.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK: In your own words, describe friendship.

Friendship is loving each other through the easy times and the hard times. Friendship is catching each other when they fall. Some people say a friend listens to each other through hard times. I say a TRUE friend listens to a friends victory and isn't jealous.

Connor,

Very profoundly put! I believe you hit a key point when you said a friend rejoices in another friends victory. This has to be one of loves true tests.

What is friendship? If I were to describe it, it would be... friends who stand up for each other, who have each others back. Who roll with each other through the rough and stormy seas and the calm cool waters. Each definition is different, and that's another thing... even through misunderstandings, fights, and arguments, they can come together and reach an understanding and repair the bond that they might have broken.

Jared,

How good it is to know your friend has your back. Betrayal is so hard to work through. Just when you thought trust was established, BAM! Under the bus you go.

But mature friends do exactly what you said... lay the past behind, forgive, and move on. Forgiveness always repairs the breach :)

Friendship is a gift that everyone should be able to experience. Friendship is laughing with that friend when they laugh and crying with them when they cry. And most of all to always be there for them no matter what they do.

Friendship is when someone knows everything about you and they still love you anyway! They're that one person who wont leave your side through all the good and bad. I read the sweetest quote from A.A. Milne the other day that said, "If you live to be a hundred, I want live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you." That sums up friendship perfectly in my opinion.

Freindship is a relationship between people that is always there for you through the ups and downs.

A friend is someone who will do anything for you. Someone who will always be by your side through anything. They will forget about all your quirks and just accept you. They will always brighten your day.

I say friendship is something that shouldn't be given out lightly. The reason why we give it to everyone we know is because we don't want to hurt each other's feelings. I think friendship is a kind of love. NOT in a weird way but in brotherly love.

When I think of the word friend I think of someone who will sit with you. When your alone and have no one with you and no one around.

Briana,

Because your family moves often, you must understand the value of a good close friend. You also must be able to maintain long distance friendships as I'm sure you've have friends in many parts of the USA.

We will miss you when your family leaves, but treasure the time we had together.

Autumn,

Being there for someone has to be the best gift a friend can give. It's so easy to be absorbed in our own little world. And reaching out doesn't always come at a convenient time.

It's like the widow who gave when she had none to give. Sacrifice comes at a cost, but to those in need, it's an expensive treasure.

Grayson,

A.A. Milne's must have known someone wonderful. That quote has always been one of my favorites and shows such extravagant devotion.

Thank you for sharing it!

Preston,

Like a roller coaster, friendship seem to have plenty of those "ups" and "downs" you mentioned. The main thing is we stay on the track for the entire length of the ride.

Hold on tight,

Abbey,

It's funny you mentioned quirks. That's something we all have plenty of and usually, we are the last to recognize them. As long as our friends can overlook them and accept us for who we are, we'll be OK. I'm so glad Jesus overlooks our weirdness!

Samuel,

I'm glad you said friendship is not something we give out lightly. Offering your deepest self is no small matter and should be done with caution. So often, we get hurt by extending ourselves when trust hasn't been developed. The next thing you know, your friend is playing basketball with your heart!

Glen,

You're right... it's no fun to be alone. Especially when others are laughing and playing all around.

It's not easy but I've learned to pick my chin off the floor and make some fun of my own. A good attitude attracts others and before you know it, you're not alone anymore :)

Friendship is standing up for each other, and if your friends are feeling down you cheer them up. Friendship is a powerful thing so don't let anyone get between you or your friends.

Cyberpsalmist said...

Jared,

I must be a very close friend that you would answer this blog twice in one week.

I promise to never let anyone or anything get between our friendship. I'll always stand up for you and cheer you up when you're feeling down... even when you're old and grey.

Your forever friend,
Chrissy

Friendship is when you will go through thick or thin with someone, no matter what the cost.

Zach,

Your answer was similar to many of the others, which goes to show we all appreciate someone who will stand with us when things are tough and rejoice when we're on top of the mountain.

Here's to keeping such a friendship for life!
