TIME TRAVELER FOR A DAY

by Demetri Maroosis

The world has had amazing history ever since the time of Creation. There have been many famous Bible stories, battles, and ancient cities. There has also been the Pentecost, The Battle of Hastings, and World War II. It is amazing to see the history that God has orchestrated. You can see God's hand throughout all of history. You can see how God planned that Jesus would be born, die, resurrect, and come again.

If I could go to anytime in history it would have to be the Tower of Babel. I have always wondered what the Tower of Babel really looks like. No one has ever known for sure.

My question is simple, if you could go back to any time or place in history; where would you go?

I've always wanted to know what would happen if I went back to the War for Independence and gave Washington ONE machine gun with tons of ammo. What happens is no more British army and the colonies not having to rely on the French (blach!) to win the war. And then history would correct itself with tons of Americans dying from small pox or something stupid like that.

I like this question.

It all depends on how long I could be there. Don't want to cause a rip in the Space-Time Continuum. And Is going back to yourself in the past out of the question? You know, two of you in one time?

But I would go back to WWII. Mostly to see America how it should be. Proud, happy, and united. If I could stay long enough, I would lie about my age and sign up to fight in the war.

If I could go back in time, I would wish to visit the time of the Egyptians. I know that they were a very ungodly and unkind people, but their intelligence and ideas for life were among the most intellectual of man. I would like to see exactly how the pyramids were made, and watch the slaves place the heavy blocks in their positions. But what would be even more impressive before my eyes would be to see Moses parting the red sea with the Hand of God. All of the plagues and the miracles which God performed in the days of Moses and the Egyptians would a marvelous spectacle for my starving mind.

Wow, I'd have to say I would want to go back to the time Jesus walked the earth. His preaching would be AMAZING to listen to. I don't know exactly which time I would want to go to..but I personally would LOVE to be there when Jesus fed so many people with those fish and little bread loaves.

I would probably go to The time moses parted the red sea. This seems like a cool place to go and see.

Well Daniel,

It might make a huge difference, but you probably need to give them an instruction manual, too.

Josh,

Thanks for a nice little science lesson. Going back in time is out of the question in this physical IMO. That is cool that you would want to go back in time to WWII. I guess you have a little warrior in you.

Nathan,

That would be cool to be the only person today to know for sure how the pyramids were built. It would also be even more amazing to see God deliver his people.

Alyssa,

I am sure the preaching would be better than anything you've ever heard LOL. You just made me in the mood for fish.

Josh D,

I wonder what it would look like to see the walls of water surrounding you with fish swimming in it.

(P.S. I bet it would be better than Sea World!)

I am sure I would go back to the 1940's. Not only were my grand parents alive, my mother-in-law would have been a young girl too.

I longed to have a Grandma and can remember hearing friends talk about their visits to their grand parents homes, either for holidays or during the summer. Mine passed away before I was born. All I know is what I have been told about them.

One of my Grandpa's died around the time I was five so I barely remember him.

As far as my mother-in-law, I would rather meet up with her after she had my husband and could tell me a few funny stories about his childhood. But getting to know her at any age would be cool.

Just put me in the Garden of Eden before sin entered the world.

If I could go back I probably want to visit the 1800s that way I could ride my horse into town and not worry about loud trucks or cars that go way over the speed limit!LOL. My horses would be very well in shape for anything. I would enjoy the opened land the most. Not seeing houses for miles is the kind of place for me.

I wish I could go back just one day to be with my Mom and Dad who have passed on; I would ask the Lord to allow me to bring my whole family. Then everyone would get hugged till their teeth fell out!

Well I know for a fact that I would definitely want to go back to a bunch of different times. I'm not exactly familiar with the names of the periods and stuff, but I know I would want to visit the time of Marie Antoinette, in France, maybe the Renaissance or just the Medieval Period for England, and the Heian(I think that is the one o_o) for Japan. I have specific reasons for each.

First of all, I love the elaborate hairstyles and clothing of Marie Antoinette's time, it was all so crazy, big, and out there. I mean, they dyed their pets for crying out loud.

Then there is the Renaissance slash Medieval periods. Hello, can you say swordplay? I LOVE it. So much. I have a certain distaste for guns, and would much prefer to be equipped with a sword. There just seems to be much more control, to me at least, in a sword then there is in say, a gun. Now I like guns, don't get me wrong, but a sword would be like an extension of yourself, one that you had to work hard to master, instead of just aiming and pulling a trigger. Plus I want a warhorse. They're wicked. :D That and the Knights had a code of chivalry that is rarely seen now a days.

Lastly(but far from least), there is the Heian, which if I'm not mistaken, is the Japanese equivalent of the Medieval ages. First thing I would like to point out about this time was the KIMONO. They are BEAUTIFUL. If you've ever seen someone in full kimono get up you cannot help but agree, something about it just has this amazing, fragile beauty. Then there is the calligraphy, another extremely beautiful art form. That, and I want a naginata >_> and a katana... and a Japanese bow. ._. I'm an archery freak... That, and like the Knights, Samurai had a code of honor that they followed to a point, even more so then the Knights. They would go as far as to commit suicide, called Seppuku(the female version was called Jigai, and the women would tie their legs together as not to be found in an indecent position.), rather then be taken or killed by their enemies.(not that I condone killing yourself of anything. o_o )

Lastly, I would want to be in any time before all the pollution and factories spurted up, just so I could see what the night sky looked like before it all, in all its clear beauty. :]

(As a postscript, I would like to say that I got my Japanese history horribly wrong[I massacred it] and I've went and mixed in all different periods. I will need to refresh said Japanese history. x_x)

(As a second postscript I would like to state that I went overboard with this blog assignment ._. )

Ms. Larson,

That would be cool to go back in time to see family. You made me think about how it would be interesting to go see my distant ancestors

Mrs. Brooks,

I am sure it would be great to see a world without sin. There would be a peace to it.

Anonymous said...

Amy,

That would be interesting to see a world without cars. We are so used to seeing cars all around us that we forget about nature.

Anonymous said...

Dear Mrs. Joni,

I bet it would be amazing to see your parents. You must miss them a lot.

Anonymous said...

Alaina,

Wow, that is a long comment. Thanks for the history lesson. Did you know that some knights actually read poems?

i would definietly wanna go back in the whole life time of Jesus. Just to see him, and all the miraculous things he did. one i would really like to see is when he walked on water. also his crucifixion resurection, and accension. that's definitely the time i would really wanna go back to.

Anonymous said...

Matt,

I wonder what it would be like to see Jesus resurrect. I bet it would also be cool to see what Jesus was like at 15.

I would definantly want to go back to the time Jesus was on earth. To see Him and all of the miracles He did would be amazing! I would also really like to meet the twelve disciples and hear how their personal relationship with Jesus was.

To Demetri: How nice of you to comment on that. As my Mom died when I was 17, I still get tears in my eyes, tho I'm 78 years old. Even at my age, I would still love to have her hug me as she always did, especially when I was upset about something. I learned that 'hugs can be more important than words' I WILL see her again as she did know the Lord; and my Daddy too. Thank you, Ms. Joni

Man, seeing Jesus would be AWESOME!!! I definitely agree with everyone who chose that!

Yet, I have two other times in history that I wouldn't mind experiencing:

First of all, I would love to go back in time to when Charles Spurgeon was a preacher at the Metropolitan Temple in London. Truly, God had gifted him in preaching, and being amazed by his quotes/sermons at this time, I think I would excitedly listen very intently if I actually got to see him preach in person. God used him to affect so many people back then, and he continues to do so today with his writings. But to see this actually happening? Oh yeah!

Secondly, I would like to go back to the Great Depression in America. We have taken so many things for granted today. It would be a good lesson to see how people "did without," especially since we're in a recession. Plus, I would like to witness their old-fashioned ways of fun :)

Anonymous said...

Christy,

Seeing Jesus perform miracles would be better than anything.

Anonymous said...

Tina,

I have never heard of Charles Spurgeon, but that would be cool to go see what preaching was like back then.

The Great Depression would be a hard time to go to because of the hurts back then. We take all of our stuff for granted now of days. You get something, and then a new version comes out.

Honestly, I don't think I would like to go back to any point in the time of history. I am perfectly happy with where I am right now, and I don't want to know "how the West was won" or see Jesus being crucified.

However, if I HAD to choose a time in history, I would go back to 1981ish. That is the year my mom was a junior in high school. I would love to see what she was doing when she was my age.

So, yeah. That's where I would go.
